About this blog

WITH well over 840 different languages and cultures in Papua New Guinea (PNG) - the Pacific Island country puts itself with a record of being the only country in the world to have that much figure in variety of richness in cultures. Its a country of 840 plus tribes. In the face of the growing influence of Western cultures, indigenous cultural preservation and the valuing of heritage is becoming more important for countries where traditional knowledge and practices are being eclipsed by the effects of globalization.

The Melanesian Way Inc. is a registered youth NGO group with IPA Incorporation No#5-3063 in Port Moresby. Its primary objective is for preserving and promoting the indigenous culture and traditional knowledge through using Internet and Blogging.

The organisation is using the Internet Technology and Blogging to communicate, share and support the promotion and preservation of the Melanesian way of life and culture.

Based in Mt. Hagen and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, The Melanesian Way Inc. encourages youths to participate in maintaining the oral history through literature, pictorial & digital recordings.

The online portal is a repository of stories from local carving techniques, paintings to cultural performances and allows communities separated by distance to learn about each other along with fostering international linkages. It's primary focus is now on the cultural events throughout the country - to have the events featured and share the colourful photos and stories.

We also work with a local artist Clements Koys, whose paintings are to preserve and promote the PNG cultures.

PNG has a number of cultural events to unite warring, preserve the indigenous cultures, promote its cultural diversity and attract international tourists.

The Melanesian Way Inc has a mission to promote and preserve PNG indigenous cultural heritage through blogging. Our aim is to participate and encourage the new generation to grow with the knowledge and values of our cultural heritage. Our vision is to develop with culture and be "culturally independent".

This is a volunteer initiative and we welcome donations, contributions and supports. Contact us via email at: melanesianways@gmail.com

This initiative is established by Peter Kinjap, a freelance journalist.
